Before breast reduction surgery, to understand whether there is a pre-operative pathology in breasts by requesting ultrasound for patients under the age of 40 and mammography for patients over 40 years old. The purpose of requesting the same examinations one year after the operation is to show the changes related to the surgery due to the future exposure of women to many diseases related to the breast. Therefore, although breast reduction surgery has some disadvantages, it may decrease milk production, loss of sensation in the nipple and scarring, and it is one of the most frequently performed operations with its many advantages.

Another advantage that does not come to mind is that the emerging breast tissues are examined pathologically, an early breast cancer can be diagnosed after the examination. On the other hand, breast reduction surgery is an operation that reduces the risk of breast cancer. Because this possibility is eliminated by removing a cancer that may develop in the future from the breast tissue, we removed during breast reduction. We do not perform breast reduction surgery during the menstrual period.

After staying in the hospital for a day after the surgery, the check-out procedures are done, and you can return to your social life and work after about a week to ten days.

Breast Reduction Surgery Process

Breasts that are larger than necessary can cause posture disorders such as chronic neck and back pain and even hunchback. Women with extremely large breasts may have difficulty in daily activities and may have difficulties in choosing clothes.

It is possible to get rid of all these problems with breast reduction surgery. In breast reduction surgery, the breast tissue is reshaped according to the body proportions of the person. During the surgery, the excess breast tissue and its skin are removed. Then, the nipple is moved up. Breast reduction surgery performed under general anaesthesia can take between 2.5 to 4 hours.

After the breast reduction surgery, a drain is placed in both breasts to remove the excess fluid accumulated between the tissues; The drain is removed after 1-2 days. Special surgical bras are used immediately after the operation. Dressing is done a week later.

Postoperative swelling, bruising, numbness in the nipple may occur. These problems can resolve spontaneously within a week. Patients can return to work, usually within a week after surgery. It is recommended to avoid heavy exercise and strenuous activities for 3 months.
